This book is a compilation of letters written to Charles H. Pettee on the occasion of his fifty-first year at the University of New Hampshire. A letter was sent to faculty, students, alumni and friends of UNH asking for letters to Dean Pettee in commemoration of his long service. The letters were bound together and presented to the Dean.

Charles H. Pettee was born in Manchester, NH on February 2, 1853. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1874 and received a degree in Civil Engineering from the Thayer School in 1876. He started teaching at the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts (NHC) in Hanover, NH in 1876. He served the University of New Hampshire for 62 years in various capacities.
